History
Batterymarch was established in 1969 by investment visionary Dean LeBaron. Under his leadership, Batterymarch pioneered the use of computer technology in equity research and management.
We were also a pioneer in investing outside the US. In 1978, Batterymarch became one of the first US-based institutional managers to invest internationally. We began investing in emerging markets in 1987, giving us more experience in these countries than typical managers. Batterymarch introduced hedged mandates in 1997 and dedicated global portfolios in 1999.
Since 1995, Batterymarch has been a wholly owned, independently managed subsidiary of Legg Mason, Inc. <http://www.leggmason.com>, one of the world's largest asset management companies.
